Chap Goh Meh

Chap Goh Meh is actually the direct translate from Hokkien meaning the fifteen night of Chinese New Year.

During this event, the girls will throw oranges in order to get a good husband. the guys will throw apple to get a good wife. Annually this event will be held at Esplanade maybe because there is a sea near there. They throw the fruits into the sea.

The Miss Pesta Penang is also there to throw the oranges.

There is lion dance and the dondang sayang bus where the dancers are riding it to the venue.

It ends with beautiful fireworks.

  1. Chap Goh Meh also coincides with the Chinese Valentine's Day, so there was activity of throwing mandarin orange. Usually, unmarried ladies will write down their name and contact number on their mandarin oranges. They make wishes and then threw their mandarin oranges into the sea. Chinese people believe that wishes made on this night were more willingly granted by the heavenly powers. In the past, unmarried ladies can only meet their patners in this day.
